artist residency
I undertook an Artist Residency for St Michael & All Angels church, a Church of England parish in central Bristol. The church had been engaging with the arts both as a matter of course and as a form of outreach, and wanted to develop this work.
The appointment involved funded arts project work and contributions from my own practice whilst working from the church's Gallery – an open mezzanine platform overlooking the nave, altar and Edwardian East Window on one side with views over the city of Bristol on the other. I had earlier helped to establish the Gallery as a studio having been inspired by the West Window, its defining feature – the source material for my own work during this period, and the catalyst for the Residency work. With an interest in how messages are broadcast and received, the period produced many creative collaborations. The pages on this section show a selection. I have just completed work on The Creative Year, a book commissioned by the church that I have been working on with Tangent Books, Bristol. The title reflects the many arts projects at the church. |
